The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination conducted for admission
to various engineering colleges in India. This entrance examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). 

This entrance examination was started and conducted for the very first time in the year 1960. At that
time this entrance examination was named Common Entrance Examination (CEE), which later in 2010 it
was re-named as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The JEE examination is conducted in two parts:

1. JEE Main : 

The Joint Entrance Examination Main consists of two papers :

Paper-1 
Paper-2 

In Paper-1 it is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.Tech/B.E) at NITs, IITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs), Institutions funded by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs.

2. JEE Advanced : Joint Entrance Examination Advanced is the 2nd part of the JEE examination. It is conducted after the JEE Main exam. JEE Advanced is an online-based examination and is usually conducted by seven different Indian IITs:-

Criteria 1 – Performance in JEE Main 2022 To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2022, candidates must qualify for JEE Main 2022 (Paper 1) and rank among the top 2,50,000 (including all categories) candidates in B.E./B.Tech. The top 2,50,000 JEE Main candidates of different categories become eligible for admissions according to the following percentages : 

• GEN-EWS – 10%
• OBC-NCL – 27%
• SC – 15%
• ST – 7.5%
• OPEN – 40.5%
• PwD – 5% reservatioion in all the above

Criteria 2 – Age Limit

• Candidates born on or after October 1, 1997, fulfill the JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2022 and become eligible for the exam.
• However, candidates who fall under categories such as SC, ST, and PwD are provided with five years of relaxation. Thus, candidates belonging to these categories should be born on or after October 1, 1992. 

Criteria 3 – Number of Attempts

• The candidates can take JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years by the candidates from the year of the passing of Class 12th.
• Therefore, the year of passing is considered the first year of the attempt, and the count follows.

Criteria 4 – Candidates’ appearance in the 12th (or equivalent) Examination

• Candidates, who have appeared for the Class 12th examination in the year 2021 or 2022 can sit for JEE Advanced 2022 Examination.
• The candidates belonging to the academic year 2018-19 are also eligible.
• However, this is applicable for candidates who had their 12th board results announced after June 2020.
• They must have cleared class XII with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.

Criteria 5 – Earlier Admissions at IITs

• The candidates who have already got admission to an IIT/ISM will not be allowed for JEE Advanced 2022, irrespective of whether he/she continued in the program or not.
• Also, in case they have accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting center in the past, they will not be permitted to take JEE Advanced 2022.
• The candidates whose seats got canceled post joining at any of the IITs due to some reasons are not qualified under JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2022.
