Congestive heart failure or simply heart failure is a condition in which the heart is incapable of performing its normal function i.e., pumping of blood to other body parts. As the name indicates, heart failure is not that the heart has failed and will no longer be able to carry out its normal function. Rather, it means that a heart muscle has weakened due to which it is unable to function properly. It is a kind of mechanical issue in which the blood pumped out by heart returns to it at a much higher rate than it is pumped due to congestion or blockage. As a result, the other body parts do not receive the oxygenated blood as required, which eventually leads to many signs and symptoms and can be fatal sometimes if not treated properly.

According to the Johns Hopkins Medicine,” More than 5 million people in the United States have congestive heart failure. It’s the most common diagnosis in hospitalized patients over age 65. One in nine deaths has heart failure as a contributing cause. To avoid heart failure, there’s a need to prevent other heart problems,” says Johns Hopkins cardiologist Steven Jones, M.D.

Let us read about the available treatment options for congestive heart failure in patients.
